Feline fine: Cat finds its way home 200 miles away after going missing on holiday

Moggie returned to its owners 63 days after running off

Moggie marvel Holly has baffled scientists by walking 200 miles home in two months after getting lost, the Sunday People reports.
Heartbroken animal-lover Jacob Richter had given up the tortoiseshell cat for dead until she turned up in a garden a mile away.
Scared Holly’s paws were worn down, she had lost half her weight and was too weak to meow.
Holly’s journey began when ex-airline mechanic Jacob, 70, and wife Bonnie, 63, were on holiday in Daytona Beach, Florida, and she fled after being frightened by fireworks.
Dad-of-two Jacob was sure microchipped Holly had died after getting no response to signs he put up in the area, 200 miles up the coast from his home in West Palm Beach.
Jacob took in the stray four years ago and said: “It was like losing a child. She’d become part of my life, not a pet but a family member.”
But 63 days later Jacob’s pain turned to joy when his beloved cat turned up just a short walk up the road, hungry and wary of humans.
He thinks she followed the coast road, keeping the sea to one side.
Vet Dr Sara Beg, who examined dehydrated Holly, said: “Maybe it’s intuition, scent or following the sun, there’s no consensus how or why.”
Animal expert Prof Marc Bekoff, of Colorado University, said: “She may have had a basic sense of direction and got clues from sights or sounds but the truth is we have no idea how she got home.”
